Evolve Artist Block 2 Assignment 1: Setting Up the Shadowbox

Overall Thoughts

There was no finished art piece to create or submit for this assignment. Instead, we’re laying the foundation for drawing from life by practicing measuring what we see in our shadowbox using a wooden “knitting needle.” The trickiest thing is trying to keep your hand steady and not being too tense (keep breathing, don’t scrunch your posture or learn forward, don’t squint your eye too hard, etc) while measuring.

Total time spent:

  • It took me about an hour (1 to 2pm) to set up my shadowbox, set up the lighting, find three soup cans, and go through the measuring assignment.

If I were to start this painting over right now, what would I do differently?
