Evolve Artist Block 2 Assignment 5: Proportional Drawing 3 (Box, cup, cylinder)

Overall Thoughts

I’ve been trying to follow the assignment examples as closely as possible with what I have on hand, even though they didn’t specify that we HAD to do what they did.

However, I think they set up their still lives thoughtfully and I wanted to follow them. For example, for this assignment the example they gave was of a curved cup and a box turned on its side, and I wanted to practice finding those angles. It’s harder than you think.

Total time spent:

  • I started at around 11am and ended around 12:20 or 12:30pm. I started by drawing about 6 images just to test the spreadsheet and train my eye.
  • I think I get it correct in less than 0.2 units, abotu 75% of the time, so that seems to be good. So I think I’m getting the hang of measuring accurately using the needle. But the tricky part about proportional drawing is deciding WHAT to measure.

If I were to start this painting over right now, what would I do differently?
